Welcome

Hi! I am John Riley and I am extremely happy that you found me on your search.

You and I both got to this page by the same process. We both were searching for something. I will tell you my story and I look forward to hearing yours.

My Story

I decided a few years back to take my own advice that I have been giving to others for over 25 years. What advice is that? To peek into the future and start envisioning the person I wanted to be and the life I wanted to live. Who knew that it would lead me on this path to becoming a health, wellness, life and executive coach? I had no idea: and why would I? I had been on autopilot for so many years and just figured I would retire from the business career I started in shortly out of college. After all, I was successful in the business world, and what the heck else did I know?

I decided on becoming a wellness coach when I realized that my successful business career wasn’t exactly my passion, but more a means to an end. My passion was fueled by interests outside of the corporate world: interests such a coaching youth hockey and baseball, mentoring young men and women in and out of the sports arena, teaching religious education and of course raising my 6 children alongside the love of my life, my wife, Jeanine. I discovered that my passion is helping people become their best. I love the process and the journey that one takes when they take the time to discover their purpose and desire and then map out the plan to get to that place.

My business career was instrumental in teaching me how to purposefully listen to a client’s desires and respond by assisting them in ways that would make their company more financially strong and efficient. My goal was to help them reach theirs: it was not about coaxing them to fit into my system where I could maximize my profits. I gave the autonomy to my clients for making plans to get the results they desired. Sometimes that meant that I had to walk away from potential business because my product didn’t meet their criteria. The result was that my clients trusted me and opened the door when my company did fit their parameters. I have taken that same approach into coaching people-it’s all about my client and where they want to take their life.

Coaching athletes, too, really was an eye opener. I am a competitive person. When I first started coaching my goal with every team I coached was to win a championship. However, as I became more experienced in coaching my approach changed. I still set the bar high for the team but my approach changed from coaching the whole team the same way to coaching each athlete and helping them to become their best. My goal for each player was now to help them grow their confidence, skill and performance. The interesting thing is that when individual players start having confidence in themselves, the whole team does better. Confidence can be just as important as God-given talent. And in a lot of circumstances confidence will win out over talent! Confidence guided by defining and practicing skills helps a person to achieve and become better than they believed they could. Confidence does not allow the fear of failure to enter their thought process. A confident person realizes that setbacks and bad days are just part of life. A confident person does not quit or go back to square one. No, they get back up and take off right where they left off. Building confidence is a process of goal-setting and then achieving. Where small steady steps forward lead to great positive changes

So I took the things I learned from the relationships built in my personal life, business world and coaching world along with my positive psychology training from the Mayo Clinic and used that recipe to forge out a new career. As a Mayo Clinic Certified Health and Wellness coach I have a career where my clients set their vision and map out a plan that will lead them to becoming the person they want to become. I help build the roadmap and I am given the privilege to complete the journey with each person. Now my work not only supports my needs, it feeds my passion.
